A construction team headed by one of Denver’s premier minority- owned companies, Alvarado Construction, has been chosen to transform the Pepsi Center for the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
Alvarado will work with Turner Construction Co. and HOK Sport+Venue+Event, the Pepsi Center’s original architect.
Linda Alvarado, president of Alvarado Construction, will be the lead contact working with the Democratic National Convention Committee. The company has worked on several signature projects in Denver. Alvarado is a co-owner of the Colorado Rockies. “This is a very historic project and a wonderful opportunity for our city,” Alvarado said.
The DNCC did not disclose the value of the contract.
When Boston hosted the Democrats’ 2004 convention, the construction project inside the convention hall, and managing and engineering, cost nearly $4 million, according to figures released by the Boston mayor’s office. Another $5.8 million went into building work spaces for the media.
