The metro region’s newest city elected its first slate of officeholders Tuesday night, with Maureen Shul becoming the first mayor of Castle Pines North in Douglas County.
Shul previously was president of the planned community’s Master Association and led the committee pushing to incorporate last year. She ran unopposed.
Carl Kollmar was unopposed for city clerk.
Doug Gilbert received 1,394 votes to beat two other candidates for treasurer, Vivian Hallberg with 270 votes and Paul Oehm with 937.
Residents elected two council members from each of three wards.
In Ward 1, Jennifer Havercroft and Christopher Dooley won.
In Ward 2, Chip Coppola and Kimberly K. Hoffman were the winners.
In Ward 3, Ron Clark was the top vote-getter with 598, joined on the council by David A. Neely with 425.
Residents in this collection of planned communities south of Lone Tree voted nearly 4 to 1 to incorporate last fall, becoming the first metro community to incorporate since Watkins in 2004. That city disincorporated two years later.
The city of Castle Pines North became Doug las County’s fifth municipality, joining county seat Castle Rock, Parker, Larkspur and Lone Tree.
