The University of Colorado women’s soccer team Thursday signed five players to letters of intent, including Kelci Newlin of Ponderosa High School and Kate Russell of Silver Creek in Longmont.
Newlin, a defender, was a team captain for two seasons at Ponderosa and plays for the Colorado Rush club team. Buffs coach Bill Hempen says Newlin will compete for a starting job. Russell was named all-state the past three seasons.
Also signing were Kelly Butler of Naperville, Ill., who was named all-state after her junior year by the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times; Kassidy Fitzpatrick of Pleasanton, Calif., who led her club team to a state championship last year; and Hannah Marsala of Alamo, Calif., who led her high school team to four consecutive conference championships.
