GOLDEN, Colo.—Jurors have found former Jefferson County treasurer Mark Paschall not guilty of theft, but they did not reach a decision on a second charge of receiving compensation for past official behavior.

Paschall was indicted last year after a former aid alleged he asked her to kickback part of bonus he had given her. Paschall denied he sought money from her.

Prosecutors pinned their case on a recorded phone conversation between Paschall and aide Kathy Redmond that prosecutors said contained a discussion of how to divide up the bonus.

But Paschall dismissed the conversation as “flippant” remarks.

The judged set a hearing for Feb. 28 on whether to retry Paschall for the receiving compensation charge.
