REYKJAVIK, Iceland — A U.S. unit of Actavis Group HF, an Icelandic maker of generic drugs, withdrew patches containing the painkiller fentanyl, saying defects may cause leaks that can lead to fatal overdoses.

The voluntary recall affects 14 lots of the patches manufactured under contract by Corium International Inc. and sold in the U.S., Reykjavik-based Actavis said in a statement.
