Sit at “The President’s Table”
Author and event planner Barry Landau was there when Marilyn Monroe sang “Happy Birthday” to JFK. He danced with Queen Elizabeth II and Betty Ford. He has amassed a huge collection of menus and invitations, now published in his new book, “The President’s Table.” Landau will bring his tales of dining and diplomacy to the Denver Public Library 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday. He will discuss his enormous collection of menus, recipes, china and silverware, some of which will be exhibited at the library this weekend. 10 W. 14th Ave. Parkway, B2 Conference Center, 720-865-1111 Kristen Browning-Blas
Mendelson’s
Why overthink lunch when what you really want is a tuna melt and a Diet Coke? Mendelson’s, located in the thick of downtown’s office district, offers up solid New York-style deli sandwiches from liverwurst to egg salad, along with an aromatic tuna melt that is as delicious going down as it is irritating to your cubicle-mates. Hey, you gotta make your own fun. 600 17th St., 303-996-5555 Tucker Shaw
Miner Decadence
Wait out the I-70 weekend jams at this Idaho Springs candy shop. Owner Connie Planck not only makes silky milk chocolate, creamy caramel and a whole case full of other handmade delights, but she also renovated the town’s old livery stable to build her rustic little shop. Definitley worth a stop for turtles and coconut haystacks on your way through the mountains. 1536 Miner St., Idaho Springs, 303-567-1704 Kristen Browning-Blas
