Denver Christian boys basketball coach Dick Katte reached the 800-win milestone Tuesday night with a 77-60 Class 3A Metropolitan League victory over Peak to Peak in Lafayette.
Katte, who arrived at the parochial power in 1960, has an overall record of 800-203.
For Katte, whose Crusaders gave him the game ball afterward, the win is more of a relief than anything else. A week or more of answering the questions and having his practices taped and miked had been a little much.
“I think he’s just relieved to get it over with,” said athletic director and assistant coach Cliff Hendrick.
In typical Katte fashion, he wants all the glory of his accomplishment to go to his kids and players. So here you go, Coach: Beau Baker led the Crusaders with 18 points and John Lenderink added 13 in a game that saw 10 of their 11 players score.
