COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Sentencing will take place next month for a man convicted of killing a Colorado Springs police detective.

A jury on Friday convicted 32-year-old Jereme Lamberth of second-degree murder in the February 2006 death of policeman Jared Jensen.

He was shot in the face while trying to arrest Lamberth for attempted murder in the stabbing of his own sister.

Fourth Judicial District Judge Larry Schwartz set March 17th as Lamberth’s sentencing date. Lamberth could face 96 years in prison if he’s ruled a habitual criminal because of his three prior felony convictions.

Schwartz also set May 6th as Lamberth’s trial date on the attempted murder charge.

Lamberth’s attorneys want to move that trial out of El Paso County due to media coverage of the murder case.
