DELTA, Colo.—The Delta city manager has identified eight finalists for the job of police chief after former Chief Rich Bacher resigned last September.

Bacher became chief in July 2006 following a nationwide search, becoming the first chief chosen from outside the department in more than 20 years.

But Bacher received a letter in March of last year signed by most of his employees, claiming a hostile work environment.

Among the finalists to replace Bacher is interim Chief Roger Christian, who has 20 years with the department.

Other finalists include a recently retired deputy chief from the Colorado Springs Police Department; the current chief of police in Holbrook, Arizona; the current chief of Nevada, Iowa; and a commander with Boulder police.
