DENVER—Northridge won three individual championships Saturday night at the 73rd annual Colorado wrestling tournament, helping the Grizzlies beat Fort Morgan 161 1/2-151.

Northridge, a fairly new Greeley school, was led by Easton Ramirez at 140 pounds, Justin Gonzales (145) and returning champion Tim Saucedo (285).

Fort Morgan won two of the four Class 4A finals it participated in Saturday evening, but the Mustangs could come no closer.

Alamosa finished third with 114 points, Broomfield scored 105 1/2 and Berthoud was a distant fifth with 90 1/2 points.

Fort Morgan’s Matt Chavez beat 2007 140-pound champ Cory Casady of Broomfield at 152 pounds with a 9-6 decision.

Chavez’ teammate Joe Hochanadel won the crown at 215 pounds with a 5-4 decision over Justin Williams of Englewood.

Two wrestlers won their third championships.

Saul Guerrero of Fort Lupton, who won titles at 119 in 2006 and 130 last year, captured the 135-pound crown with a 5-1 overtime decision over Nathaniel Garcia of Greeley West.

Cody Yohn, the 152-pound winner in 2006 and 160 last year, earned a technical fall over Derek Vasquez of Northridge in 4:11.

Two other returning champions won back-to-back titles Saturday.

Alamosa’s Jesse Meis successfully defended his title at 103 pounds and Fort Lupton’s Dale Shull won at 125 pounds.

Freshman Travis Himmelman of Conifer began his career with a 3-0 decision over Pueblo West sophomore Vinnie Sanchez.

Pueblo West had a highlight with Tony Chavarria, who wrestled Brandon Martz of Liberty to a 6-4 decision at 189 pounds. With the victory, Chavarria finished his high school career with a perfect 29-0 record.
