WASHINGTON, D.C. — Colorado ranks seventh among all 50 states for its economic competitiveness, according to a new index from the American Legislative Exchange Council.
Low taxes on income, business and property, and the absence of an estate tax boosted Colorado’s ranking, as did measures restricting government spending.
The state was docked for its high sales-tax rate, its new minimum-wage requirements and recently legislated tax changes.
Economist Arthur Laffer and Stephen Moore of The Wall Street Journal compiled the rankings in “Rich States, Poor States: ALEC- Laffer State Economic Competitiveness Index.”
