When lead singer Patricia Day asks an audience a question there’s only one answer — “HELL YES!” And “hell yes” pretty much sums up the way you’ll feel after watching HorrorPops perform. Taking the stage with two of the hardest working go-go dancers I’ve seen, the trio displayed its signature mix of punk rock energy and rockabilly swagger to a sold out on Friday.

The crowd reflected the differing musical styling of the band. People outfitted in some of the largest Mohawks gravity will allow stood side-by-side with rebel greasers, all of them singing along whenever Day requested it of them. And she requested sing-alongs quite often, my personal favorite being “Missfit” in which the music is taken from “Our House” but the lyrics are switched to “My fist in the middle of your face.”

A HorroPops concert is equally about showmanship and musicianship, which makes it thoroughly entertaining to watch. The go-go dancers, positioned on each side of the stage, looked like little Dia de los Muertos dolls and incorporated lollipops, toy guns and hand fans among other props into their routines, much to the crowd’s delight.

Day did an excellent frontwoman job of giving off rock ‘n roll swagger, but guitarist Kim Nekroman gave her a run for her money, at one point putting down his guitar and playing her upright bass. Day and the dancers just sat on the drum kit pretending to indulge him.

Playing a good mix of familiar songs and newer ones from the recently released “Kiss Kiss Kill Kill,” Horrorpops easily worked the crowd into a thrashing mass of dancing and occasional moshing. And even after a decent set, which included an “audience’s choice” song, and extended encore, the crowd was still yelling “hell, yes” to more.
