Travelers move about in veggie oil-fueled “tundra buggies” on six- or eight-day adventures that include accommodations and most meals; for an extra fee, guests can opt to stay in the “Tundra Lodge,” a hotel on wheels that is moved around the bears’ habitat for up-close viewing.
Group size is limited to 15; trips are run October to mid-November, when the bears are waiting for the sea to refreeze for hunting. Rates start at $4,195 for the six-day trip; call 800-543-8917 or visit .
