Broncos defensive back Domonique Foxworth said he has been told not to worry about being part of a trade to Detroit tonight, but Foxworth still is bracing himself for a move.
“I’ve heard all the talk,” he said. “I don’t know what to believe. It’s kind of strange that my name is popping up in talks and they aren’t true. The Broncos have been good to me and whatever happens, happens. It would be kind of sad to go, but I’m prepared for everything.”
A proposed deal could send Foxworth to Detroit. It’s not yet clear what Denver would get in return, although the Broncos have shown interest in Lions’ defensive tackle Shaun Rogers.
Another possibility is a three-way trade with the Jets and the Lions that would involve Jets’ defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson coming to Denver and Rogers going to the Jets. The Broncos likely would need to redo Robertson’s contract and no talks have commenced.
The Lions also are interested in linebacker Jonathan Vilma, so he could be a part of a bigger deal.
The trading period starts at 10 p.m. tonight. Denver has given Foxworth a third-round tender as a restricted free agent and he were to get a deal that Denver doesn’t match in free agency, the Broncos would get a third-round pick for him.
The Broncos still are trying to trade receiver Javon Walker, and Dallas and Tampa Bay are among teams that have expressed interest.
