LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — Lindsay Jacobellis and Nick Baumgartner gave the United States a first-place sweep in the U.S. Snowboarding Cup snowboardcross event at Whiteface Mountain on Saturday.

Jacobellis and Baumgartner each won all of their qualifying races as well as the final heats in the men’s and women’s World Cup contest.

Saturday’s men’s victory was the first of the season for Baumgartner, a 26-year-old from Iron River, Mich.

• Ronny Ackermann of Germany won the nordic combined overall title when the World Cup sprint in Lahti, Finland, was canceled because of strong wind. Ackermann led Bill Demong, who trains in Steamboat Springs, by 237 points before the ski jump was called off. With two events left, and 100 points given for a victory, Ackermann can’t be overtaken. Ackermann has 1,100 points, Demong 863 and Norway’s Petter Tande 833.

• Steve Omischl of Canada won the World Cup aerials title in Moscow, while Emily Cook of the United States captured her first World Cup event.

• Denise Karbon of Italy won the World Cup giant slalom title without strapping on her skis when the race in Zwiesel, Germany, was canceled because of rain and winds.
