DENVER—Investigators say alcohol or drugs are believed to have contributed to a two-vehicle crash near Erie that killed one man and injured another.

The Colorado State Patrol says 20-year-old Chase Geer of Federal Heights died as a result of the accident that happened about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on southbound Interstate 25.

Authorities say Geer was in a Chevy Blazer, attempting to pass a Ford Ranger, when the two sport utility vehicles collided.

Both ran off the left side of the road and rolled.

Geer was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at Longmont United Hospital. A passenger, 21-year-old Drew Berwick of Laramie, Wyoming suffered moderate injuries.

He was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette.

The Ford driver was not hurt.
