I want to respond to Woody Paige’s column, “Now it’s full speed ahead for refueled Avalanche”:
Woody’s wrong, the Avalanche are too far down and out. Signing Forsberg is a plus — but seriously, for one year, and just for the end of this season, it’s preposterous. With these new additions, including hometown favorite Adam Foote, the Avalanche has a shot but it’s not a guarantee. They should just start over next year. Forsberg will be gone and Foote is well past his prime. People are way too hyped about this awesome reunion. I’m not buying.

In praise of Coach Q
Joel Quenneville is one of the best coaches I have ever seen, and I have seen thousands of hockey games. His job absolutely is not in jeopardy, and his performance under such unwarranted criticism is evidenced by the scoreboard during the two most recent matches, both of which resulted in wins. Joel is an inspirational, motivational coach. I can assure you he will lead his team to the playoffs as well as secure a top contract.

Ticked off about tickets
I wanted to express my continued frustration at the Rockies’ online ticket process. I knew my odds were slim to purchase opening-day tickets with the “packages” that have been available the past few weeks, but I wanted to try anyway.
It was October 2007 all over again. I preregistered well in advance. I received confirmation that my account was registered, and I had my new account number ready to go. Ten a.m. Saturday rolls around and I selected the “April” portal to get tickets for opening day. Lo and behold, there are only links for games on 4/5, 4/6 and the rest of April. There wasn’t a 4/4 link anywhere to be found — until 10:55 a.m., that is. Then the link magically appears, but the game is now sold out. What a crock! I got hold of a rep later in the afternoon, and it was the same old song and dance: “We had so many people log on that our system crashed.”
Come on, the ticket office must be in someone’s barn outside of Limon!
