Some say it’s the best ski film ever made. Others will tell you it’s simply one man’s interpretation of skiing history. You can decide for yourself when the Mark Obenhaus-directed big-mountain skiing documentary “Steep” goes on sale in DVD form March 18 (Blu-ray high definition on March 25).
Featuring Colorado skiers Chris Davenport, Lou Dawson and Seth Morrison among a cast of big-mountain legends, the Sony Pictures production delves into the death-defying world of extreme skiing, from its origins in the crags of Chamonix to the motivation driving these athletes to the edge of physical ability.
Filmed in high definition on some of the world’s most formidable peaks, “Steep” has been compared to action-sports epics “Riding Giants” and “Dogtown and Z-Boys,” melding insider interviews from some of skiing’s greatest talents and most colorful personalities with rare historic footage and a more modern look at the pursuit of the perfect moment on skis.
DVD bonus features include commentary and Q&A with Obenhaus and skiers Ingrid Backstrom and Andrew McLean.
