CENTENNIAL — Jury selection began today in the death penalty case of Sir Mario Owens, accused in the killings of a witness — who was to testify against him — and the witness’ fiancee.

Owens, 23, is currently serving life in prison without parole in the death of Gregory Vann at Lowry Park in Aurora on July 4, 2004.

He is also accused of killing Javad Marshall-Fields and Vivian Wolfe in June 2005 as they were driving down an Aurora street. Marshall-Fields was set to testify against Owens and another man for the killing in the park a year earlier when he was gunned down.

Because it is a death penalty case, jury selection could last several weeks, with opening statements possibly the last week of March.
