LAKEWOOD — The first of what could be several weeks of prescribed burns on Green Mountain near C-470 and Interstate 70 is scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday.
West Metro Fire Rescue firefighters and Bear Creek Lake Park rangers plan to burn nearly 200 acres, with the first parcel totaling 29 acres.
The burn is dependent on weather conditions. West Metro spokeswoman Cindy Matthews said smoke may be visible to homeowners and drivers on C-470 near the West Alameda overpass and I-70 interchange.
Matthews said the burn aims to rejuvenate native grasses, remove thatch and noxious weeds, reduce wildland fire potential, reduce pesticide use and provide firefighter training.
Citizens with concerns or questions should call West Metro, 303-989-4307.
