A train conductor blew the horn when they saw a man walking alongside the train tracks early Wednesday in Greeley before the train struck and killed the man.
A northbound Union Pacific train conductor saw the 36-year-old man walking along the tracks near mile 113 of U.S. 34, underneath the U.S. 34 bridge near the U.S. 85 intersection, around 6 a.m., .
The conductor sounded the horn and the man initially stepped to the side, per the release, but moved back onto the tracks and was hit by the train.
The man died at the scene of the crash. His identity will be released by the Weld County Coroner’s Office after next of kin are notified.
The railroad crossings at 31st Street and 37th Street in Evans were closed for about 2 hours after the crash, according to .
