A cat burglar who slipped into Littleton homes at night while people slept was convicted Tuesday of 17 counts of burglary and numerous other charges.
David John Heckman, 32, also was found guilty of seven counts of aggravated motor-vehicle theft, two counts of auto trespass and three counts of theft by receiving, said Nancy Hooper, spokeswoman for the Jefferson County district attorney’s office.
In March and April of last year, Heckman entered the homes of 25 families at night through open garage doors or unlocked windows, Hooper said.
Heckman also stole seven vehicles from homes, including the Mercedes he was driving when he was arrested on May 2, 2007, by the Colorado State Patrol.
A separate trial June 2 will determine whether Heckman will be penalized as a habitual criminal at his sentencing Aug. 8, Hooper said.
