Getting your player ready...

TUCSON — There was rust but no pain for Aaron Cook and Luis Vizcaino. That left the Rockies relieved, and pleased, after this morning’s intra-squad game.

Because of arm woes, neither pitcher had thrown in a game in more than a week, so today’s test was a meaningful one.

Cook, the Rockies’ No. 2 starter, threw three innings, allowing four hits, three strikouts and no runs against Rockies Triple-A and Double-A players. Cook threw 42 pitches, 27 for strikes. He said there was no residual pain from a sore shoulder that scratched him for his last start.

“You get out of it what you put into it,” Cook said of the scrimmage. “It was a good test for me.”

Vizcaino, acquired during the offseason to be a primary setup man, pitched one inning, throwing 11 pitches, eight of them for strikes. He said his tight right elbow felt fine.

“I felt good and threw all my pitches,” said Vizcaino, who hopes to throw in a game on Friday.
