BOULDER, Colo.—Meghan Heimstra and Lauren Wolfinger scored 16 points each Wednesday to lead Silver Creek to a 57-45 victory over Pueblo East in the Class 4A state semifinals at the University of Colorado Coors Events Center.
Silver Creek (25-2), which trailed 27-19 at the intermission, stormed back with a 14-0 run to begin the second half, and the top-seeded Raptors took at 32-27 lead with 5:34 left in the third quarter on a basket by Jessie Jones.
Silver Creek used its full-court pressure to gain the advantage, forcing Pueblo East to make several turnovers that led to Raptors foul shots.
Danielle Figliola scored four points during the run, giving Silver Creek the lead for good, 28-27, with 6:44 left in the period.
Maleah Gregory, who scored a game-high 20 points, drew Pueblo East within three, 42-39, with a pair of free throws with 25.2 seconds to play in the third, but the Eagles could come no closer the rest of the way.
Heimstra, who will play at Colorado State next year, scored eight points in the third quarter, while Wolfinger added 7, including an impressive 3-point play in which she stole the ball under the basket and drew a foul on her shot with 1:20 left.
Pueblo East (25-2), also a No. 1 seed, saw its 17-game winning streak come to an end, and the Eagles lost for only the second time this season. Their only other loss came against Class 5A Air Academy in December.
There were six lead changes in the game and four first-half ties.
Silver Creek, from Longmont, will make its first appearance in the girls state title game on Friday at CU against the defending state champions, Broomfield.
