The Adams State women’s track and field team won the NCAA Division II indoor championship Saturday at Myers Field House in Mankato, Minn.
It was the Grizzlies’ first national team track title since winning the NAIA crown in 1985. Adams State became the first team to win a cross country championship and a track title in the same school year.
Adams State won with 55 points, followed by Saint Augustine’s (N.C.) at 48 and Lincoln (Mo.) at 38.33. Western State finished 23rd. Tanya Gaurmer, who finished third at 1,600 meters, clinched the title for the Grizzlies by finishing eighth in the 5,000.
The Adams State men were led by Nick Lara, who won the 800. The Grizzlies finished third with 39 points, behind men’s champion Saint Augustine’s (68) and runner-up Abilene Christian (49). Western State was 10th and Colorado Mines finished 14th.
Illinois State hires Funk.
Former Colorado State offensive line coach Darrell Funk got a new job Friday, at Illinois State as the Redbirds’ O-line coach.
“I was really impressed with Darrell during the interview process,” said ISU head coach Denver Johnson. “He has become a highly thought of offensive line coach and has a great reputation as a recruiter.”
