Cops plan to ticket 12th student for “fight club”
BOULDER — Police plan to ticket a 12th student Monday in a “fight club” involving students from Fairview High School.
So far, 11 students have been ticketed on suspicion of public brawling.
Sarah Huntley, spokeswoman for the Boulder police department, says a group of 15- to 17-year-old boys formed an organized, after-hours club where participants often battled in front of 30 to 60 spectators.
A video on the Internet showing two fistfighting students is being examined by police for clues or the identities of other students who may have been involved.
Officials for the Boulder Valley School District said they are conducting their own investigation because the activities of the unsanctioned club — although off school grounds — were violent and could have resulted in the death of a student.
“This is bare-knuckles brawling. It’s some of the worst behavior students can engage in,” said Briggs Gamblin, spokesman for the school district.
The fights occurred on the grass behind South Boulder Recreation Center, 1360 Gillaspie Drive.
Although the location is a mile by car from the high school, Gamblin said it is just down a hill from the school’s parking lot.

ADAMS COUNTY — A 64-year-old Littleton man was leaving the Tanner Gun Show Saturday afternoon when he accidentally shot himself in the stomach with a .38-caliber handgun, sustaining non-fatal injuries, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Department.
Richard Steven Brown had just left the Denver Merchandise Mart and was in his vehicle when the handgun accidentally discharged. There was no information in the incident report about whether Brown had just purchased the gun or why it was loaded, according to Sgt. Candi Baker, a department spokesperson.
The Tanner Gun Show bills itself as the largest and oldest in Colorado.
Bellvue woman dies in rollover accident
LARIMER COUNTY — A 69-year-old Bellvue woman, who was not wearing a seat belt, was killed in a rollover accident on a rural road in Larimer County, authorities say.
Martha A. Moore died following the 4:25 p.m. Friday accident on Larimer County Road 54G about a half-mile south of the North Colorado 287 bypass, said Trooper Gilbert Mares of the Colorado State Patrol. Moore was driving a white 2008 Subaru Outback west on 54G when she swerved off the right side of the road, went down an embankment, rolled and struck a utility pole. She was thrown from the vehicle, Mares said.
Police said a medical condition may have contributed to the accident.
