“Entourage” star Adrian Grenier doesn’t even know why he’s getting an award at the Vail Film Festival.
The fest runs April 3-6, when it salutes Grenier with the Blue Sky Tribute for environmental activism.
“I wasn’t expecting to win anything for doing what I should be doing anyway,” he tells me. “I guess they’re recognizing me for participating in things that should be sort of commonplace. I’ve just always supported various groups, whoever is involved in environmental movements and change.”
So don’t expect his carbon footprint to be too big in Vail — even though he’ll have to walk on those heated sidewalks.
He’s working on a “green lifestyles” show on Discovery’s PlanetGreen network to debut in June. And the house he just built is really, really green.
Grenier says he has no idea what direction HBO’s “Entourage” will take next season — but I hope it isn’t about being green.
“Luckily, the writers strike is over, so they’re starting to create it. We start shooting in mid-April. I don’t know what it’s about. I’m as excited to find out as you are.”
Emergency leprechauns.
Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald, star of Animal Planet’s “Emergency Vets” and comedian extraordinaire, plans to bring down the house at the Comedy Works on Monday night, a.k.a. St. Patrick’s Day.
His act, Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald and His Lucky Charms, will celebrate all things Irish and funny — just like Fitzgerald.
He doesn’t ride a float in the parade anymore. His St. Patrick’s Benevolent Society for years sent the wildest contraptions down the route, throwing out beads, heads of cabbage, potatoes and green coconuts. “There’s nothing like seeing the face of a kid when you hand him a cabbage,” Fitzgerald said in 2001. “We had to put a lid on it. Everybody’s in rehab.”
But he still loves St. Patrick’s Day. “There’s something great about it,” he always says. “You can go into bars that actually smell like Ireland. Old perfume, stale beer and vomit.”
America.
Jim White of Volunteers of America and Donald Rossa of Dazzle want Denver-based chanteuse Rene Marie to sing at the Democratic National Convention.
She sang at Dazzle two weeks ago, bringing down the house with her patriotic medley — something she calls “Voice of My Beautiful Country.”
It’s the jazzy melodies of “America the Beautiful,” “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee” and “The Star-Spangled Banner,” morphing into “Lift Every Voice and Sing” (a.k.a. “The Black National Anthem”). It always brings the crowd to its feet, cheering, even crying.
City spirit.
