The Internal Revenue Service has set a schedule for distribution of economic-stimulus payments based on Social Security numbers.
According to a schedule distributed Monday, electronic payments will arrive in bank accounts starting May 2 for Social Security numbers whose last two digits are from 00 through 20. The last electronic deposit will occur May 16.
The first paper checks — sent to those who did not request electronic deposits — will be mailed May 16, the IRS announced. The last checks will be mailed July 11.
Taxpayers who chose electronic deposit on their federal income-tax returns will receive rebates via that method, whether they were due a refund or not.
You must file a tax return to get the rebate, which can be as much as $600 per person. Individuals who are not required to file a return — those with nontaxable income such as those on disability or retirement benefits — must file a 1040A.
Call 800-829-1040 and select “7” on the menu for more information about the rebate program. Or go to the IRS website at , which has a calculator feature for people to see how much of a rebate they can expect.
