Friday-Sunday. The sound of drums and sacred songs echo through Denver this weekend when the Denver Coliseum hosts the 34th Annual Denver March Powwow. Each session begins with the Grand Entry, a procession of flags, dancers and powwow royalty. The different categories of dance contests include all sorts of tribal dress, including the Grass Dance, Jingle Dress and Fancy Shawl dances. There’s also an arts and crafts market, storytelling and delicious frybread. Friday through Sunday. Denver Coliseum, 4600 Humboldt St. 720-865-2475. Starts at 10 a.m. daily. $7 daily or or $18 for three-day pass. Cash only. Children under 6 and adults over 60 are free. Tickets at the door. .

Saturday. Hop over to the Children’s Museum of Denver’s Bunny Trail EggVenture on Saturday. Spring-themed activities abound, including egg-dyeing, stories, music and animal visitors. Learn all about birds during “Home Tweet Home,” at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., and make your own nest to take home. Mr. Shine performs “Calling All Bunnies” at 11 a.m., featuring puppets, magic and movement. And don’t forget the Easter Bunny. He’ll be nosing around, of course. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Saturday. On the other side of town, the Wildlife Experience hosts its Spring Eggstravaganza Saturday. Hunt for eggs, get your face painted, do some crafting — there are lots of “eggciting” things to do all through the museum. The normal galleries and exhibits will be open, too. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The Wildlife Experience, 10035 Peoria St., Parker. 720-488-3300. The event is free with admission to the museum: $7.95, $6.95 for those 65 and older, $4.95 for children 2 to 12. Kids under 2 are free.

Sunday. Each year, thousands of people greet Easter morning well before the sun comes up. Not to check their Easter baskets, but to scramble for a seat at the annual sunrise service at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The popular event is a Denver tradition: Layer up for warmth, trek out to the Rocks, and celebrate the holiday as the sun rises over the plains. Gates open at 4:30 a.m., the service begins at 6:30 a.m. Red Rocks Amphitheater, Morrison. 720-865-2494. The service is free, but bring a nonperishable food donation. Offerings will also be taken.

Thursday. When a prairie dog pops out of its den to get the lay of the land, people see different things: Some see an annoying pest, others an incredibly cute creature. Jonathan Proctor, regional representative for the Defenders of Wildlife, sees an essential component in the plains ecosystem — a component that is rapidly disappearing. Join Proctor to learn more about the little rodents and their important place in nature in his free talk at Lookout Mountain Nature Center. 7 p.m. Thursday. Lookout Mountain Nature Center and Preserve, 910 Colorow Road, Golden. 720-497-7600. The program is free, but registration is required. Call to sign up.
