Getting your player ready...
FORT MYERS, Fla. — This balk was called by the Red Sox.
The team forced the hand of Major League Baseball on Wednesday, voting to boycott a nationally televised exhibition on ESPN and a flight afterward to Japan for MLB’s season-opening series against Oakland because coaches weren’t going to receive the same $40,000 payments negotiated for players by their union.
After a two-hour negotiation, MLB agreed to pay the managers, coaches and trainers on the trip $20,000, a person familiar with the agreement said, according to The Associated Press. The Red Sox agreed to make up the difference to make the amount equal.
