TIRANA, Albania — Investigators questioned Albania’s former defense minister Thursday about a deadly weapons depot explosion.
Fatmir Mediu, who resigned as defense minister Monday over the disaster, was questioned about possible causes of the explosions at the site where workers were disposing of communist-era weaponry and ordnance, prosecutors said.
The explosions last Saturday near the capital, Tirana, killed at least 19 people, including two found dead Thursday, officials said.
Three people, a Defense Ministry official, and the owner and manager of the Albanian company that was carrying out the arms disposal, have been arrested for alleged negligence.
