Firefighters battling a fire in Aurora this morning found a 54-year-old woman dead in her bed.
The fire broke out just before 2 a.m. at Buckingham Gardens on the 800 block of South Ironton St., said Capt. Mark Turley of the Aurora Fire Department.
When firefighters arrived at the scene they did find flames showing and heavy smoke, Turley said.
The woman has not yet been identified.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and there were no other injuries.
About 15 people were evacuated from their apartments. The complex where the fire occurred is for low-income residents and is owned by the city of Aurora, Turley said. Most of the people evacuated were seniors.
The American Red Cross is on scene assisting in the aid of fire victims.
The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of the woman’s death.
