Getting your player ready...

In an Avalanche season full of bad medical news, Friday offered no relief.

Avs defenseman Adam Foote flew back to Denver to have his ailing hip re-examined, and won’t play Saturday night against the Edmonton Oilers. The Avs only would say Foote, who played the first two games of Colorado’s current three-game road trip, would get an examination from team doctors and any prognosis about the hip is premature.

Avs defenseman Jordan Leopold is expected to take Foote’s spot in the lineup against Edmonton.

Avalanche forward Peter Forsberg also is unlikely to play against the Oilers. The Avs say he continues to be bothered by a groin injury. After Monday’s game in Minnesota, however, Forsberg said his groin was “fine.”

The Avs enter Saturday’s contest losers of three in a row, but still four points up on the nearest competition for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
