LINCOLN, Neb.—Nick Sullivan hit an RBI double and Jake Mort stole home in a five-run third inning, and Jake Opitz broke open the game with a two-run single in the eighth in Nebraska’s 9-4 victory over Northern Colorado on Wednesday.

Erik Bird (1-1) turned in a solid start, allowing four hits and two runs, one earned, in five innings. He walked two and struck out three.

Jason Banks (0-3) took the loss, lasting just 2 2-3 innings and giving up five hits and seven runs, five earned.

Nebraska (19-3-1) has swept six games from Northern Colorado (7-17), which played 22 straight road games to open the season.

The Bears’ Erik Whinery went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. DJ Belfonte and Ben Kline had two hits apiece for the Huskers, who open a three-game Big 12 series at Texas on Friday.
