The Northern Colorado baseball team split a doubleheader Saturday with South Dakota State at Jackson Field in Greeley. SDSU won the first game 9-7. UNC bounced back in the second game to win 13-6.

Andy Mees led the Bears in the first game, going 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs. In the second game, Chad Murray went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored for UNC (8-19).

Eagles up 2-0 over ‘Hounds.

Goaltender Sebastien Laplante made 31 saves in earning a shutout as the Colorado Eagles defeated the Youngstown SteelHounds 5-0 in a Central Hockey League conference semifinal series game in Loveland. The Eagles lead the best- of-seven playoff series 2-0.

Overtime goal lifts Pioneers.

Cliff Smith’s overtime goal gave the No. 20-ranked University of Denver men’s lacrosse team a 10-9 victory over Harvard at DU’s Barton Stadium. Jamie Lincoln, a freshman midfielder, led the Pioneers (6-4) with four goals.

66ers win barnburner in Broomfield.

Adam Harrington scored a game-high 37 points to lead the Tulsa 66ers over the Colorado 14ers 122-121 in an NBA Development League game in Broomfield. Billy Thomas’ 34 points led Colorado. Roderick Riley and Kaniel Dickens added 24 points apiece for the 14ers.

Golden Gloves champs include Nichol.

Shawn Nichol of Lakewood’s D-Town team earned a referee’s decision in defeating John Franklin, a member of the U.S. Army’s World Class Athlete Program at Fort Carson, to win the 119-pound championship at the Colorado State Golden Gloves Tournament at the Mile High Event Center in Commerce City.

In a show bout, Louie Byrd of Denver’s Backyard Brawlers boxing club defeated unattached Brandon Sanchez at 112 pounds. Byrd was the unopposed 106- pound champion and Sanchez went unopposed at 112. Eight other title bouts finished late Saturday.
