For a few dollars’ worth of gas, two men arrested Monday caused thousands of dollars of damage to cars and trucks in northwest Denver, according to Denver police.
Shad Reimer, 27, and Randall Tomei, 24, are accused of drilling holes in gas tanks to drain the fuel.
Reimer is charged with 11 counts of criminal mischief and 11 counts of theft. Tomei is charged with eight counts of criminal mischief and eight counts of theft.
The thefts happened in the Regis, Berkeley and West Highlands neighborhoods beginning Feb. 14. One auto owner said he spent $1,100 replacing his gas tank.
The thieves often targeted sport utility vehicles and other vehicles where the tanks were higher off the ground.
