CHICAGO—United Airlines’ mechanics have voted to switch their union representation to the Teamsters Union from the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association.
The Teamsters announced the results of voting Monday, saying it got over 60 percent of the more than 6,700 votes cast.
The National Mediation Board still must certify the vote for the switch to become official.
The Teamsters have been pushing for more than two years to represent the 9,300 active and furloughed mechanics at United.
Many mechanics are disgruntled by United’s move to outsource maintenance work overseas. Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa says United as cut more maintenance positions than any other U.S. airline.
