The Condi Kicks Workout. If your gym routine could use a kick in the pants, try The Condoleezza Rice No-Excuses Workout, detailed in May’s Fitness magazine. The secretary of state, 53, gets up at 4:30 a.m. six days a week and hits the home treadmill or elliptical trainer for up to an hour of interval training (while watching ESPN’s “SportsCenter”). On days she meets trainer Thomas Tomlo at the State Department gym, she does a lighter cardio workout (40 minutes on treadmill or elliptical with resistance set between 5 and 7). Tomlo then puts her through 30 minutes of total body strength circuits that include squats with curls, presses and front raises; lunges with curls, lateral raises and presses; and then deadlifts with rows, reverse front raises and reverse flys. Each circuit ends with push-ups, triceps dips and crunches. Rice, who admits to being a “chubette” as a kid, says exercise is a stress-reducer. “I can’t just relax. I have to transport myself to something else. This is one way of doing that.” Find the routine at .
