COLORADO SPRINGS — It was obnoxiously cold and windy, so it can only mean Colorado schoolboys were playing baseball.
“Oh my gosh, it was so windy up here. I hate it,” Air Academy coach Glenn Millhauser said Tuesday, and it was after his Kadets ripped host Rampart 19-7 in the Class 5A Colorado Springs Metro League.
Conditions may have been better for “Survivor Man” on cable television, but Air Academy improved to 12-1 overall and 7-0 in league, the Kadets’ 22nd league victory in succession. They banged out 23 hits, eight for extra bases, in backing up Dexter Price, an Auburn recruit who was solid over six innings and had good stuff in bitter conditions.
Ron Burton had four hits. Bob Terry, Jared Brown and Ross Yeager ripped home runs that didn’t need any help from the wind, and Matt Fen-lason tripled twice.
Rampart (6-3-1, 2-2) fell behind 5-0 and never recovered.
