A mother is set to appear in Denver County Court today after she was formally charged Monday with child abuse after her infant son allegedly ingested methamphetamine.

Katriece Trujillo, 27, has been charged by the Denver district attorney’s office with one count of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury.

The charge alleges that Trujillo was caring for her 3-month-old son when he ingested the illicit drug sometime March 27 or 28, according to prosecutors. Trujillo told investigators she bought $40 of meth and “accidentally” mixed it with baby formula, according to court documents.

After the admission, Trujillo denied it.

The infant’s father, Anthony Kammann, told investigators that Trujillo had put the meth next to the baby bottle and that it “fell into the bottle,” the affidavit said.

The baby, suffering seizures, was taken to Children’s Hospital on March 28, and it was determined that methamphetamine racked his system, police said. The child has since been released to the protective custody of child services. Kieran Nicholson, The Denver Post
