Firefighters extinguished an early-morning blaze that severely damaged a Texaco Xpress Lube in Denver, officials say.
The fire was reported just after 5 a.m. By the time firefighters arrived, they could see flames and heavy smoke coming out of the roof of the business at 9640 E. Alameda Ave., said Alex Paez, Denver fire spokesman.
The fire started in the mechanical room of the business and took nearly an hour to control, Paez said. Firefighters were worried that the blaze could ignite oil, but kept it from spreading into the basement area where the oil is stored, he said.
“The business will not be operable for quite some time,” Paez said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
