The Senate kicked off one of a series of themed floor sessions Monday morning, giving initial approval to several bills dealing with health care. Senators are set to vote on another slate of health care bills today, then move on to two consecutive days highlighting education bills. The themed sessions end next week with two days of economic-development bills.

Among the bills that passed Monday on second reading were:

• Senate Bill 2, which allows family members of those with developmental disabilities to be reimbursed for the care they provide in their homes.

• SB 90, making it easier for consumers to pay for mail-order medication.

• SB 57, requiring insurance coverage for children’s hearing aids when medically appropriate.

• SB 214, which changes the process local governments can use in imposing a fee on certain health care providers.

• SB 6, allowing mentally ill inmates who had been on Medicaid to more quickly regain their benefits upon being released from jail or prison.
