GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A man serving more than 200 years in prison for trying to kill two sheriff’s deputies and another man in Mesa County has lost his bid for a new trial in a separate case.

The Colorado Court of Appeals ruled Thursday in the case of 26-year-old Samuel Lincoln.

Lincoln claimed that Mesa County District Judge Tom Deister violated his right to a fair trial on charges of aggravated robbery stemming from a 2004 home invasion.

Lincoln said Deister denied his challenge of a prospective juror, who had said during pretrial questioning that he’d heard Lincoln was a bad person who was involved with drugs.

The appellate court found that the prospective juror indicated he had no opinion about the case, and that he would be able to render an impartial verdict.
