It is doubtful that power forward Nene will play on Sunday, Denver coach George Karl said on Friday afternoon.

Nene is still suffering from a strained right groin. The Nuggets open the first round of their playoff series on Sunday against the Lakers in Los Angeles.

Nene has played in 16 games this season, averaging 5.3 points and 5.4 rebounds.

Earlier this week, Karl did say he was hopeful that Nene could make an appearance later in the first round. Nene has participated in some practice drills. Game 2 is Wednesday at Staples Center.
