COMMERCE CITY, Colo.—The San Jose Earthquakes scored their first two goals of the season in a game in which they shut out the Colorado Rapids.
Ronnie O’Brien broke the Earthquakes (1-2) scoreless season Saturday night just before the end of the first half and Kei Kamera added another goal in the 61st minute of second half.
The Rapids (2-2) still sit at the top of the Western Conference with six points. The win gives the Earthquakes their first three points of the season. The Earthquakes are in sixth place in the Western Conference, only ahead of the last-place Los Angeles Galaxy who also have three points but have lost three games.
Going into the game, the Rapids were tied with Chivas USA for the most goals scored in the West and they were one shy of the Columbus Crew for the league lead. The seven goals scored by the Rapids this season have each been by a different player on the team.
Earthquakes’ goalie Joe Cannon had four saves in the game, including one in the 95th minute of the game from a shot by Jose Burciaga Jr.
The Rapids were coming off a 1-0 victory Saturday against the New England Revolution.
