Bolder Boulder founder Steve Bosley was visiting grandchildren in North Carolina on Saturday when he learned he had been elected to the second class of inductees in the Colorado Running Hall of Fame.
“I’m stunned,” Bosley said. “This is really special.”
Also named in this year’s class:
• Mark Plaatjes, 1993 world champion in the marathon, now a prominent physical therapist and running store owner.
• Steve Jones, former world- record holder in the marathon, now a coach.
• Arturo Barrios, former world-record holder in the 10,000 meters and four-time Bolder Boulder winner.
• Tony Sandoval, who won the 1980 Olympic trials in the marathon and would have been a gold medal favorite if the U.S. hadn’t boycotted the 1980 Moscow Games.
• Ellen Hart Peña, a two-time winner of the Bolder Boulder and outstanding masters runner.
• Melody Fairchild, an eight-time Colorado prep champion for Boulder High School who competed at the University of Oregon.
Those runners will join last year’s inaugural inductees in the Hall on May 14 in the Grand Ballroom at the Denver Athletic Club. The public is welcome.
