Another step has been taken in moving the 2008 Colorado vs. Colorado State football game at Invesco Field at Mile High to a Sunday night kickoff with a national telecast.

Amy Turner of Fox Sports Rocky Mountain confirmed Monday that the parent Fox Sports Network has requested a date and time change for the game — to a 5:30 p.m. kickoff, Sunday, Aug. 31.

The Rocky Mountain Showdown would be shown by all FSN regional outlets after telecasts of major-league baseball games.

“That should be a very good time slot nationally,” Turner said. “Typically, college football games that follow major-league baseball tend to do very well for us.”

The request by FSN is subject to the approval of Colorado (the designated home team) and the Big 12 Conference, which has a contract with FSN. That appears to be a formality.

CU athletic director Mike Bohn said positives derived from moving the game from Aug. 30 to Aug. 31 would include the potential for a national telecast and allowing Denver police and fire department personnel another day to recover from their duties with the Democratic National Convention, which ends Aug. 28.

CU center departs.

Caleb Patterson, a 6-foot-11 center from Ringwood, Okla., who played in 14 games as a freshman in 2007-08, is leaving the Colorado men’s basketball program.

Patterson requested and was granted his release, his father, Rodger Patterson, confirmed Monday. Originally a Ricardo Patton recruit, Patterson is in good academic standing and will complete this semester at CU before transferring to another school in June. He has visits scheduled for Missouri State, Texas-Arlington and Northern Illinois.

“We are disappointed that Caleb has elected to leave our program,” coach Jeff Bzdelik said. “We wish him nothing but the best.”

At Northern Illinois, Patterson would be reunited with Patton and former CU guard Xavier Silas.
