FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Colorado State University President Larry Penley has proposed raising tuition 9.5 percent next year for in-state undergraduates.

That would mean an increase of $384 annually, for a total of $4,424.

He proposed a 15.2 percent increase for nonresident full-time undergraduates, to $20,140.

The CSU Board of Governors is expected to vote on the proposal in June.

Penley says he would like to use the extra money to help expand financial aid, add 10 faculty members, improve campus security and support faculty startup ventures.

The University of Colorado’s Regents on Tuesday approved a 9.3 percent tuition increase, for yearly in-state tuition of $5,922.
