DENVER—The Denver Art Museum and the Denver-based Anschutz Collection have jointly acquired an 1892 painting by American artist Thomas Eakins from the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
The Denver museum said the painting, called “Cowboy Singing,” will go on display immediately.
The price wasn’t disclosed. Denver museum officials say the Philadelphia museum sold the piece to purchase another Eakins painting, “Portrait of Dr. Samuel D. Gross (The Gross Clinic).”
The Denver museum also acquired two Eakins sketches.
