Burglars are hitting Denver’s Park Hill neighborhood hard, police warn, and residents are urged to alert authorities about suspicious activities.

Denver police said several daytime burglaries have taken place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. in recent weeks and residents should be on the lookout for strangers wearing backpacks ringing doorbells or roaming alleys.

Area residents who want to alert police about possible burglars are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867).

If someone witnesses a crime in progress they should call 911, police said.

Police said residents can take measures to minimize their chances of being victimized including:

Lock all outside doors and windows before you leave the house or go to bed. Even if it is for a short time, lock your doors.

Keep your garage door closed and locked.

Push-button locks on doorknobs are easy for burglars to open. Install deadbolt locks on all your outside doors.

Never leave notes on your door such as “Gone shopping.”

The Denver Police Department recommends that residents get to know neighbors and join or start a Neighborhood Watch program.

Park Hill residents seeking more information on watch programs can call Tech. Amy Eften at 720-913-1093.

Denver residents elsewhere should call their local district station Neighborhood Watch information, police said.
